Solution

What is eID?

Your eID is an alphanumeric set of characters. Your eID is not your student or employee number (also known as your V-number, vID, or Banner number).

The VCU eID is the username used, along with a corresponding eID password, to you to access VCU resources such as myVCU PortalVCU MailCanvasVCU Libraries resourceseServicesVCU SafeNet and other central and departmental applications.

The VCU eID vision is to provide all VCU affiliates with authenticated secure access to the information they need through the web using a simple, single sign-on process.

TIP: Visit the How to Claim Your eID article if you are setting your account up for the first time

eID Naming Requirements

VCU eID names are automatically generated by using a combination of up to 13 characters taken from an individual's legal (United States) last name, first initial, middle initial, and in some cases up to two (2) additional digits.

  • Example: James L. Smith - smithjl2

Currently, VCU is unable to offer or create custom eIDs. Automatic eID generation is essential to ensuring consistency across diverse technology systems and allows us to provide you with the best technology usage experience at VCU.

eID for VCU Affiliates

An eID for an affiliate is not created until the account is created first in the HR system. Please contact your department HR personnel to create an affiliate account in the HR system. After the account has been created in the HR system by your HR personnel, your eID account will automatically be created. Your department HR person's contact information is listed in the following link - VCU HR departmental contact person

Affiliate Workspace accounts are enabled by the request of the affiliate's department.

eID Suspension Requests

Requests from departments for suspension, removal, or access to an individual's eID account must be approved at a higher level. To suspend a faculty, staff, or affiliate account, the request must originate from a dean level or equivalent administrative position and be sent to the VCU CIO for approval. To suspend the eID of a VCU Health System employee, the request must originate from the Vice President of Health Sciences and be sent to the VCU CIO for approval. To suspend a student account, the request must originate from the dean of the school or equivalent administrative position and be sent to the VCU CIO for approval.
