Mymail.vcu.edu email forwarding sunsetting - Knowledge Base

Summary

On January 30, 2026, delivery of emails addressed to former eID@mymail.vcu.edu addresses will stop. Emails addressed to the eID@vcu.edu address will continue to be delivered. The former mymail.vcu.edu domain was decommissioned in 2021. Steps were taken to continue to forward emails addressed to those email addresses so that current students and alumni would have time to update their addresses with the senders. A full 4-year academic cycle has occurred, and logs indicate that the majority of this email is bulk/marketing email. To reduce storage and protect users from spam, phishing, and malware, we will sunset this delivery.

Solution

Update addresses

To identify those emails still addressed to the former address, perform this search in your Gmail inbox web browser:

To continue to receive these emails, please visit the sender’s site and resubscribe using the @alumni.vcu.edu or @vcu.edu address.

Update third-party accounts

If this address was used in the past to authenticate to any third-party accounts, such as social media, gaming, or LinkedIn, please take steps to change the email address and use the @alumni.vcu.edu or vcu.edu address instead. Once we remove this redirect, it will not be added back.

Update contacts

Email should never be addressed to any format of mymail.vcu.edu. Update this to vcu.edu. If contacts exist with any address containing mymail.vcu.edu, take the following action now:

Review the Knowledgebase article for steps to search and update your contacts.
Perform a search in your contacts for mymail.vcu.edu to produce all of these contacts. During the decommission, the mymail domain was renamed several times.
Edit and correct any address containing mymail.vcu.edu to vcu.edu, or delete the contact and pull from the public directory in the future.

Additional Information

Emails arrive addressed to eID@mymail.vcu.edu. Rule has been in place at our incoming Cisco email gateway to rewrite the address and deliver to active account for individuals. This has been in place since 2021 when new accounts using @vcu.edu addresses were provided.
