Summary
Gmail users may choose to have "Other contacts" automatically populated. When an email address changes from a sender, this other contact remains. This may cause confusion or inaccurate email addressing.
Environment
Google Gmail and Contacts
Solution
- Open Google Contacts using the 9-dot App Launcher in the upper right corner of the user's Gmail Account. Alternately, when signed into a Gmail account, open a new tab and visit https://contacts.google.com.
- Using the top search bar, enter the address or a portion of the address that you wish to locate. The search results will identify where this contact is located.
- Open the contact to edit, save to your permanent contacts, or use the 3-dot menu to delete the contact.
Visit Google's Contacts Help support page for further assistance.
Additional Information
Other contacts have been populated with an email address that is no longer valid. This may include former mymail.vcu.edu addresses. The setting that determines whether email senders are automatically added to other contacts is located in Gmail Settings --> General --> Create contacts for auto-complete near the bottom of the General tab.
