StatusPal Customer Instructions

Welcome to the VCU IT Status Alerting page.  On this page you will find alerts posted regarding VCU’s Information Technology service offerings.  When a service is experiencing an incident, is undergoing maintenance, or if there are general informational notices regarding service offerings, this page will contain information regarding those activities.  As a customer of these services, you can subscribe to receive information regarding these activities.  To view the status page, navigate to it.vcustatus.com.

Subscribing to a Service

First navigate to the Status Page here.  In the upper right corner of the page you will see a link to Subscribe to updates.

Upon clicking "Subscribe to updates," a popup is opened with all the possible notification channels as tabs.  Initially you will have to subscribe to only one notification channel, however upon confirmation, you will be presented with the opportunity to add additional notification channels.

The most common notification channels are Email and SMS.  To subscribe to email notifications select the Email tab and provide your email address in the email address field (Note: This system is designed to send to user accounts, please refrain from registering Google Group and ListServ email addresses), then select the types of notifications you wish to receive by clicking on the drop down under Get notified about.  If you wish to receive all notification types skip this step as it defaults to all notification types.  Next, if you wish to receive notifications on all services, you may click the check box to let the system know you are human and click subscribe.  If you wish to select specific services to subscribe to, simply click the radio button labeled Select services.  Once you do that, a list of all services will appear and you may select whichever services you wish to receive alerts regarding.  Once you have selected the services, you can click the checkbox to let the system know you are a human and click Subscribe.

Note regarding Slack and Google Chat:  These are configurations we have built out in the system and will be leveraging those for a few IT Specific spaces in the two chat solutions.  Support for specialized integrations leveraging these solutions will need to be discussed with the IT Service Management Office by emailing ITSMO@vcu.edu

For SMS subscriptions, you will navigate to the SMS tab.  Once there, you will have to select the country your phone is registered in from the dropdown labeled Select a country.  (Note: When you click the drop down for Selecting a Country, you can start typing in the name of the country your phone is registered in to begin filtering down the list of available countries).   ***Note - When you select the United States, upon returning to the SMS Subscription page, you will notice that it will revert to listing your number as being in Canada.  This is expected and will not impact your ability to receive SMS messaging.

Next type your phone number in the field marked Your phone number.  You may select the types of notifications you wish to receive SMS messages regarding (Note: only Minor Incident with SMS, and Major Incidents are available for SMS notifications).   The system will default to notifications of All services, but you may click on the radio button to select the services that are important to you.  Finally you will have to click the checkbox to let the system know you are human and finally click Subscribe.
