MathType

MathType is a powerful interactive equation editor for Windows and Macintosh that lets you create mathematical notation for word processing, web pages, desktop publishing, presentations, eLearning, and for TeX, LaTeX, and MathML documents.

MathType is the professional version of the Equation Editor in Microsoft Word. It allows you to create complex equations with a simple point-and-click. MathType works with any word processor, presentation programs (such as PowerPoint), Canvas, page layout programs, HTML-authoring tools, and other software to create equations for research papers, class material, web pages, slide presentations, dissertations, and journal articles.

 UPDATED: The current Product Key expires December 11, 2025 

VCU has obtained a MathType license that permits 100 faculty/staff and 900 students to subscribe to the software for one year. The license is assigned to the user and may be installed on a VCU computer and personal device by current VCU faculty, staff, and students. MathType is compatible with Microsoft Word and Google Docs on all devices using Windows and Mac. 

MathType software obtained under this license:

• May only be used by current VCU faculty, staff, and students.
• May be used on VCU owned computers or devices owned by VCU students, faculty, and staff.
• It is exclusively for academic use.
• May not be used for commercial gain.
• May not be modified.
• Must be uninstalled when you are no longer affiliated with VCU.
