Symptoms

When trying to log onto the RamsVPN client (Cisco AnyConnect), you get the error: The service provider in your current location is restricting access to the Internet. you need to log on with the service provider before you can establish a VPN session. You can try this by visiting any website with your browser.

You still have access to the internet, but cannot log onto the VPN. 

Environment

  • Cisco AnyConnect
  • macOS
  • Windows

Solution

Access the Cisco AnyConnect settings to disable Captive Portal Detection

  1. Navigate to the Cisco AnyConnect Settings via the gear icon on the connect screen

  2. Under Preferences, check the "Disable Captive Portgal Detection" option

  3. Restart Cisco AnyConnect and test the connection

 

Contact your internet service provider (ISP) in inquire about your IP address settings

  1. Changing from a Dynamic to a Public/Hybrid IP address may clear up the issue. Your ISP can change these settings for you

 

If you are still unable to log in, please submit an IT Support Ticket.
