Solution
Choose your device type:
Personal Device
NOTE: You must obtain a license file from VCU. Visit go.vcu.edu/spss for more information.

Open SPSS

Go to File > Manage License

In the resulting window, click Launch License Wizard

If an activation screen (shown below) appears, click Launch License Wizard

Select Authorized user license (shown below)
TIP: Take note of the Lock Code in case troubleshooting is required

In the Enter Code box, type (or copy/paste) the SPSS authorization code found in the installation or renewal email that was sent to your VCU account

Click Add, then click Next (example shown below)
- Wait for the Authorization succeeded message:
- If you receive an Authorization failed message, DO NOT PROCEED beyond this screen. Click Cancel and provide the Lock Code from Step 2 to the IT Support Center.
- Click Finish
CAUTION: After licensing has been completed, and again every few weeks, visit SPSS Updates to see if any Fix Packs are available. Fix Packs correct bugs and other SPSS software issues and are released by IBM technical support as such issues become known.
VCU Device
VCU device licenses are managed centrally. If you are experiencing licensing difficulty, uninstall and reinstall SPSS via the Software Center:
- Windows: Open the Start menu and search for Software Center
- Go to Applications and click on the version of SPSS you are using
- Click Uninstall
- After uninstallation is completed, restart your computer
- Go back to SPSS in the Software Center and click Install
- macOS: Click the VCU logo in your menu bar and select VCU Self Service or open Spotlight Search and type Self Service
- Ensure you are logged in
- Browse to Software
- Click on the version of SPSS you are using
- Click Uninstall
- After uninstallation is completed, restart your computer
- Go back to SPSS in the Software Center and click Install
- Linux: Consult with your desktop support team for access
