How to change my eID

Solution

An eID can only be changed in the following circumstances:

  • Preferred name change. See Call Me By My Name.
  • Legal name change. This update must be submitted through the University Registrar or Human Resources.
  • Existing eID incidentally contains obscene or offensive language.

Any change requests resulting from a name change must occur after the name has been updated. It takes 1 to 2 hours to reflect on the website below after the change has been processed.

NOTE: eID changes can take between 24 and 48 hours to reflect in centrally managed systems after they have been submitted. Access to these systems may be interrupted until the update is complete. Canvas can take longer, and some systems may not be available under their old or new eID without intervention from the system owner.

  1. Log in at eid.vcu.edu
  2. Go to the My Profile tab
  3. Click Profile
  4. Click the Generate eID button
  5. Selecting this will update the eID with the new name using the standard naming convention: Last Name(max:10 char) + First Initial [+ Middle Initial][+##].

If you do not see the Generate eID button, it means something hasn't run correctly on the back end.
