Summary

The student is trying to download the Microsoft 365 apps on their MacBook but is encountering the error message "You currently do not have an Office license that includes the Office desktop apps."

Symptoms

Unable to login/activate the license for Office 365. Error: "You currently do not have an Office license that includes the Office desktop apps."

A new student cannot download Windows or Microsoft Office

You get the notification that you only have viewing access when opening documents in Office

Solution

New student

Our license with Microsoft prohibits us from distributing software to anyone except employees and currently enrolled students.

  1. Your status with VCU is not confirmed until you have registered for classes. 
  2. The day after you have registered for classes, you should be able to download Microsoft products.

Current student/faculty/staff

Submit a ticket 

Outcome

Once license is associated, you will be able to access Office.
