Summary

I can't access my drive data in my alumni account. How do I restore my alumni drive data?

Environment

Alumni accounts in the alumni.vcu.edu domain.

Solution

Google announced changes to its free storage plans, impacting the availability of unlimited storage for educational institutions. As a result of this change to educational accounts, all Google Drive data in alumni accounts have been permanently removed. This data is not recoverable.
 
 To ensure a smooth transition, our Alumni Office sent notices in May 2023 about the upcoming end of Google Drive access for alumni email accounts.
 
Collaboration Services took the following steps before deleting the data:
  • In October 2023, we stopped users from adding or editing documents in Drive.
  • In November 2023, Google Drive access was removed for all alumni accounts.
  • In January 2024, data was securely transferred to deletion accounts
Realizing this change would cause inconvenience and users may miss notifications, we continued to offer users who contacted us the opportunity to move their data until April 2024.
