Summary
Any access to the Operational Data Store (ODS) data via a Service or User Account MUST be approved by the data owners beforehand via IT Support ticket directly from the requester to the security group. These tickets must be resolved and approval granted by the data owners before ODS access can be granted.

Solution
- Determine the level of access for the new account. All new account requests should give an example of an existing (or removed, in the case where an employee left and someone is replacing them) account whom the new account should mirror regarding the access. If the new account will not mirror another, a request can be made to provide access to only a specific schema or even a single table inside a schema.
- Submit a support ticket to the appropriate security group by going to go.vcu.edu/itsupport.
- In the Service Catalog, under Administrative & Business Resources, select Administrative Technical.
- Select the appropriate security group based on the data needs of the new account:
- Student data → Request/Modify Banner Student Account
- HR data → Request/Modify Banner HR Account
- Finance data → Request/Modify Banner Finance Account
- BI/Analytics Support for assistance in determining the correct security group to contact for approval.
- Include the following information in your request:
- The name for the new account, following the naming convention:
- for service accounts: "VCU_[requested name]"
- for a new user account: the schema name must match the user's eID
- Who the owner of the service account will be (if applicable)
- The exact purpose of the account
- The name for the new account, following the naming convention:
- After approval has been granted, the security group will work with the Business Intelligence Analytics team to have the new account created by the vendor, which takes approximately one week.
