Sync eID Password with Off-Campus computer

Updated

Summary

If someone resets their eID password while off campus, then tries to log in to their VCU-owned computer, the new password will not work when logging into the computer.

Environment

Active Directory, Windows log-in

Solution

If you know your old eID password, log in with that. Once you successfully log in,  you can sync the new eID password with Active Directory, by doing the following.

  • Login to the computer with your eID and your old eID password.
  • Connect to RAMS VPN (using the new password) via Cisco AnyConnect.  To get AnyConnect, follow the instructions on this page. https://ts.vcu.edu/askit/network-services/rams-vpn/
  • Press the CTRL +ALT+DEL keys at the same time.
  • Select the 'Lock" option and log in using the NEW password.

Note: If you do not know your old eID password, you will need to come to campus and connect the laptop to an ethernet connection (wired connection) to log in to the computer with the new eID password.
